Decathlon: The Ankle Rehab
I honestly thought it was going to be easy. In December 2011 I broke my ankle/fibula in a Pole Vaulting accident. It was a spiral fracture caused by an eversion of the ankle when my spike got caught on the mat. The surgery resulted in plate and screws in my ankle.
A year later, in November 2012, the ankle hardware came out. I expected after at most 6 months I would be back to 100%. Now 6 months after the surgery I still have a lot of stiffness and discomfort. The rehab continues and my training will be limited again this summer.
Code: Ever-Evolving Side Project
The Top 5 of Anything (T5OA) was a project I started circa 2005 with Noel Riggs, my Newfie colleague now living in Albacete, Spain. I wrote the code, he sourced the list data. A hobby project for us but the site has continued to evolve and grow over the past few years. Now with daily numbers in the thousands it's time for another round of sweat equity investment on our part. A redesign, new features, and more frequently updated content will be coming in the near future.
Study: Formal and Informal
I'm 3/4 of the way through an Honours Math degree at Mount Allison University. A Bachelor of Science degree that has taken me over a decade. I did my first year in 2000, then left Canada for the better part of the past decade, and resumed part-time in 2010 while I built my software company Zedfast. My expected graduation is either August 2014 with a possibility of extending to December 2014. Just under 15 years from start to finish. The end is in sight which is why I'll be studying full-time come September. Over this summer and next I'll be doing a few correspondence courses to cover my distribution credits (Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences/Languages/etc). This summer I have two intro courses, in Anthropology and Psychology.
My informal study will be to finish of the AI for Robotics at Udacity.
