On this day, November 9th, 1989, I remember watching on TV as they tore down sections of the Berlin Wall. It had a profound impact on me--it happened on my 11th birthday.
Life in divided Germany was a fascination of mine growing up. Watching stories about it on TV, reading about it, and being taught to abhor the GDR and how that regime operated.
Now when I see my own government, and other governments of countries that also spoke out against the GDR, implement the very same laws and legislation that we were against 25+ years ago, well, I don't know what to think--hypocrisy? I was just a kid at the time. Why do I remember these details that everyone else seems to forget?
