Install the Fira Font in Ubuntu

Updated on 2018-06-13 for Fira version 4.3 and to install both otf and ttf files.

Fira is Mozilla’s OpenSource typeface family licensed under OFL by Carrois Apostrophe

I use this as a font everywhere, including on this site, as an operating system font, and as a monospace font for code.

Getting this font family is one of the first tasks I run after a fresh Ubuntu MATE install.

You can download the install-fira.sh script from github or copy-paste it from here:

wget https://github.com/bBoxType/FiraSans/archive/master.zip
unzip master.zip
sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/fonts/opentype/fira
sudo mkdir -p /usr/share/fonts/truetype/fira
sudo find FiraSans-master/ -name "*.otf" -exec cp {} /usr/share/fonts/opentype/fira/ \;
sudo find FiraSans-master/ -name "*.ttf" -exec cp {} /usr/share/fonts/truetype/fira/ \;
